When you apply for the NURTURE mentoring program, your skills and experience, as stated in your application, will be looked at alongside our selection criteria. If we believe your aims and learning objectives as a mentee meet the criteria alongside one of our mentors who has relevant experience and skills, then we can match you both. The types of matches made could be between people around the same functions or job areas, or they may relate to a particular objective or issue that the mentee articulates either in the application form or during the training session. This is all completed in a bespoke and individual way.
An email will then be sent to both the mentee and mentor, confirming your participation in the NURTURE programme and informing you of your partner.

NURTURE has been designed specifically for the RTPI by Women in Transport, a non-profit professional network that supports the professional development of women working in transport. The Membership Team will be working closely alongside Women in Transport to deliver the programme.
With Women in Transport being involved in this mentoring programme, this does not mean that it is only open to women. The NURTURE programme has been designed for Chartered RTPI members in the UK or Ireland at the mid-point in their careers, looking to progress, regardless of gender. We received positive feedback from all participants involved in the first pilot of the NURTURE mentoring programme. Mentee and mentors provided us with feedback in how the programme could be improved moving forward, however overall, participants achieved what they hoped to from the experience. Read more about the first mentoring programme here.

We have taken the feedback given to us by previous participants on board and this year will be introducing peer to peer support sessions to mentees and mentors selected for the programme. This will enable participants to network, share knowledge, best practice as well as support one another through this unique experience. This new intervention has been created directly from the feedback from our first mentoring pilot.
We will also be providing more information to those that are selected, as to how the matching process takes place. Participants fed back to us that more transparency was needed regarding this process, therefore we have worked hard to include this in more of our communications as well as our upcoming training for mentees and mentors.
