West Midlands planning projects nominated for prestigious regional awards

Six projects in the West Midlands, including the Perry Barr regeneration scheme and new stations for HS2, have been shortlisted for the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) West Midlands Awards for Planning Excellence 2020.

The RTPI, which has over 1,750 members in the West Midlands region, represents 25,000 planning professionals worldwide and promotes spatial planning, shapes policy and raises professional standards.

The RTPI West Midlands Awards for Planning Excellence celebrate outstanding projects that demonstrate the power of planning in the region - this year’s competition was strong, with a record number of entries for the second year in a row.

The entries shortlisted for the RTPI West Midlands Awards for Planning Excellence are:

  • Carters Green Improvements (entered by Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council)
  • HS2 Phase One West Midlands Stations (entered by HS2 Ltd)
  • Perry Barr Regeneration (entered by Birmingham City Council)
  • Ross-on-Wye Neighbourhood Plan (entered by Place Studio)
  • Wolverhampton Interchange (entered by City of Wolverhampton Council and Ion Development)
  • Worcestershire Parkway (entered by Worcestershire County Council)

Three Young Planners are also shortlisted for the RTPI West Midlands Young Planner of the Year Award, celebrating outstanding RTPI members in the region in the first ten years’ of their careers. The shortlisted Young Planners are:

  • Charles Edward Goode
  • Ollie Thomas
  • Daniel G. Wilson

Vice Chair of RTPI West Midlands Stephanie Eastwood said:

“The quality and diversity of entries to this years’ Awards has been fantastic. It was a pleasure for the judges to read about so many outstanding examples of planning and passionate Young Planners in the West Midlands. The shortlist reflects the excellent standard of entries this year. The judging panel will now have the challenging task of identifying the winning entries from the high calibre shortlist.”

The winners will be announced in November.
