This webinar forms part of our RTPI Online series and is brought to you by the North West Region.

This is the first in a series of 3 sessions that will look in detail at the Greenbelt.  It will consider national and local policies, permitted development rights and case law precedents.  It will consider key wording often used in Greenbelt policies such as appropriate, infill, disproportionate and materially larger.  It will look at how we assess openness and how we determine very special circumstances.

This webinar will be an overview of Greenbelt policy including:

  • Key policy concepts (eg openness, purposes of including land in the Greenbelt etc)
  • Relationship between "spatial" and "visual" openness: see the Supreme Court's judgement in Sam Smiths,
  • Explanation of the "very special circumstances" test.
  • Interaction between Greenbelt policy and the NPPF para no. 11 'tilted planning balance'.

Speakers:

  • Jonathan Easton, Barrister, Kings Chambers
  • Constanze Bell, Barrister, Kings Chambers

Please book your place and you will be sent a link for the webinar the day before the event.
