Make Space for Girls Webinar: ParkWatch Results and What Is Next.

Join the Thames Valley Young Planners Network for a webinar with Make Space for Girls Co-founder and Trustee Susannah Walker

Make Space for Girls campaigns for facilities and public spaces for teenage girls. They raise awareness of the issue, as well as using research and campaigning to ensure that the voices of girls and young women are heard in the planning process.

They are currently working on a range of projects which improve parks and other outdoor spaces in order to support opportunities for teenage girls and improve their mental and physical well-being and their access to public space collaborating with a wide range of institutions, including universities, health trusts, councils and developers to create change.

In the webinar you will hear about the organisation, what their plans are in the future and the results from their surveys that people undertook for them at parks in May Bank Holiday, where they asked people to take part in a citizen science project, counting how many teenagers were using the facilities in their local park, and how many of these were girls.

Susannah Walker is the Co-founder and Trustee of Make Space for Girls, her varied career has included working in museums, as a tv producer for the BBC and Channel 4 and writing several books. She became outraged when she realised that not only had her local council only provided outdoor facilities for teenage boys, they didn’t propose to do anything about it either. She particularly enjoys gathering data and finding great examples of spaces for teenage girls from other countries.
