This event will explore the use of listed buildings as active spaces in urban life. It will include a tour of the recently refurbished Category A Listed Gladstone’s Land (a National Trust for Scotland historic property). The tour will be led by Dr Kate Stephenson (Visitor Services Manager at Gladstone’s Land) who will explain how the history of the past residents and their occupations inspired its refurbishment.

This will be followed by a presentation by Barbara Cummins (Vice-Chair PAS and Immediate Past Convenor, RTPI Scotland). Barbara will draw on her experience in heritage planning to discuss the benefits of re-using historical buildings with regards to environmental impacts and placemaking, while also considering some of the challenges we face as planners and how these can be addressed.

Please note that wheelchair access is limited to the ground floor only due to the historical steep and uneven turnpike (spiral) staircases to the other floors. The tour will include the first floor.
