Code of Conduct review

The Institute is issuing a call for member views on its Code of Professional Conduct and supplementary guidance.  We are refreshing the emphasis and five core principles to reflect good practice from the International Ethics Standards Coalition and bench-marking against other professional bodies. We propose retaining a concise Code with overarching principles. Where necessary, additional guidance or supplementary regulations should be provided in separate documents.

The language used needs to be as simple and clear as possible so that it is understandable to all, including members of the public. Most clauses have been revised to reflect changing practice and cases that have come before the RTPI Conduct & Discipline Panel. However the key requirement for members to annually review their skills with a Professional Development Plan and complete and record 50 hours of CPD over a two-year period will remain unchanged.
