The Vice President, the President and the Immediate Past Present are collectively referred to as the Presidential Team. The Presidential Team works together to represent the Institute at external and internal engagements throughout the year.
In August/September 2025, eligible RTPI members will be asked to elect their Vice President for 2026. The Vice President in 2026 will go on to become the RTPI’s 113th President in 2027. Find out more about this role and how to apply below.

RTPI Vice President for 2026 (President in 2027)
Outline of role
The Vice President is part of the President Team which represents the Institute and its members on visits, conferences and other speaking engagements in an ambassadorial capacity.

Eligibility Criteria
- A chartered RTPI Member who has held a role on the RTPI board or on a committee for at least one year in the past five years.
- A strong and passionate advocate for planning and the work the RTPI does to serve and support its members.
Retired chartered members retain their chartered status after retirement and are therefore eligible to apply for the Vice President role and any position requiring chartered status.
Minimum time commitment
During their Vice President year, the Vice President will typically attend:
- 14 internal meetings at the RPTI (General Assembly, Board and the Nations and Regions Panel)
- Flagship events, such as the annual RTPI conference and awards
- Visits around the UK and Ireland and some occasional overseas travel.
Please note, attendances at events and visits both in the UK and overseas will increase in the Presidential year.
Length of term
3 years (one year as Vice President, one as President and one as the Immediate Past President).
Impact of the role
As an elected ambassador for the RTPI and its members, you will have the visibility and influence to promote and shape the work of RTPI, inspire members and future planners, hear what matters to our members and advocate for excellence in planning that cuts across sectors and geographical locations.
How to get involved
Complete an online nomination form sent to you by [email protected] in June 2025.
Provide the names and details of four chartered RTPI members who support your nomination. Once you have submitted your nomination form, your four named supporters will be sent an email from Mi-Voice and asked to complete a supporter's forms.
Your candidate statement will be published on the RTPI website and on the Mi-Voice voting pages in August and all eligible members will be invited to view it and vote for their chosen Vice President candidate. The elected Vice President for 2026 will be announced in September 2025.
