Help Shape Your Young Planners' Network

Network Name and Definition

We are currently asking the question about the name and definition of ‘Young Planners’. We want to ensure that the name and definition reflect the community within. Therefore, we have been asking a series of questions to all Young Planners to understand their views and thoughts. We have asked them if they are happy with the name or if they think it needs to be changed. If it does, then what to? And what do we update the definition to?

Currently, the definition states:

'Young Planner' means a Member who, on the date of the Autumn Meeting of the General Assembly in any year, has no more than ten years' post-qualification experience.

The question is: Post what?

Therefore, we need to:

  • Understand if the wider Young Planner membership has an appetite to change the Young Planner name and definition.
  • Acknowledge that the brand/identity of the term Young Planner is well recognised and respected and there will be implications/risks involved with any proposed change that will need to be discussed.
  • Undertake a series of workshops with members, surveys of committees, and discussions with panels.

Help us to shape the future of the RTPI Young Planners' Network

With all of the above in mind, we invite you to respond to two questions to help us understand your views about the Network:

  1. Do you think the name "Young Planner" needs to change? - Click here to answer this question
  2. If you think the Young Planner name does need to change, what would you change it to? - Click here to answer this question
