RTPI invites views on next Research Strategy

The Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) is developing its next Research Strategy for 2026 – 2029. The previous Research Strategy 2022 – 2024 was extended to cover 2025, and concludes later this year.

To ensure the new strategy reflects the needs and priorities of the planning profession, the RTPI’s Practice and Research team is seeking input from members across the UK and internationally, relevant RTPI committees, and other key stakeholders – including planning researchers both within and outside accredited planning schools.

The RTPI’s Research Strategy guides the Institute’s research programme and underpins its role as a Learned Society. It shapes the research the institute commissions or carries out, informs the RTPI’s relationships with accredited planning schools and the wider research community, and sets out how the institute uses research to influence planning practice, policy, and public discourse.

Have your say

We want to hear from RTPI members on:

  • Future research topics or questions the RTPI should explore;
  • The principles that should shape the next strategy;
  • Recent planning-related research – by the RTPI or others – that you found particularly valuable, effective, or innovative.

To share your views, email [email protected] with your responses to the above.

The deadline for submissions is 31 August.
