The RTPI are partnering with Content With Purpose (CWP) to produce a digital series exploring the intrinsic role of planners in tackling climate change, paving the way to a sustainable, viable and vibrant future.
Through an effective and insightful planning system, we can reduce carbon emissions and adapt to climate change impacts already locked in. Planners can embed climate action in local decision making, foster net zero transport, improve urban greening, create affordable housing, smart cities and protect infrastructure from flooding.
But as the threats of climate change exacerbate, this is a crucial time to harness the value of planning and foster a more diverse and inclusive profession; empowering and enabling planners to prioritise net zero and climate resilience, and build healthy, socially inclusive and environmentally sustainable places.
‘Planning for Tomorrow’s Environment’ will meet individuals and organisations at the frontline of the UK’s response to the climate crisis, exploring planning’s progress across healthy and sustainable placemaking, nature recovery, collaboration, research, innovation and skills development. Featuring interviews, podcasts, films, articles and a documentary, it will provide a platform for the exchange of ideas and best practice, whilst raising awareness and inspiring the next generation.
The digital series will launch on World Town Planning Day, 8 November 2022. It will then be promoted through an extensive digital marketing and communications campaign, with tailored content for specific audiences including the RTPI network and the wider planning and built environment community, as well as policy makers, young people and the general public.
Victoria Hills, Chief Executive of the RTPI, said: “Planners are a driving force in addressing the climate crisis, and it is crucial that we support them to maximise their potential to deliver solutions. We look forward to working with CWP to promote and inspire climate action among the planning community, and to celebrate some of the inspiring work that underpins a brighter future.”
Max Smith, Managing Director, CWP, said: “Planning is at the heart of our fight against climate change, it guides development and we simply cannot make progress without it. We are excited to raise awareness of planners’ vital contribution to society, and to inspire further progress on our path to net zero.”
CWP is a strategic content creator that works in partnership with leading member bodies and associations; engaging professionals on their industries' contribution to solving the climate and ecological crisis.
