Event Description

With economic growth at the centre of the new Government’s growth agenda, planning reform has become the primary lever to deliver the ambition for 1.5 million homes in this Parliament, alongside the need to accelerate the delivery of green energy infrastructure. While the changes being proposed in the new Planning & Infrastructure Bill are very much focused on improving the way that housing and infrastructure are planned and permitted, there is also a need to consider the needs of the construction material supply chain that will ultimately provide the foundation for economic growth.

Domestic construction aggregates represent the largest material flow in the economy, but over the last decade and beyond permitted reserves have been consumed at a faster rate than they are being replaced. As a key enabler for the delivery of growth, the planning reform agenda should present a golden opportunity to reinforce the policy and delivery mechanisms required to maintain a steady and adequate supply of these essential mineral resources.

This conference will consider and reflect upon some of the opportunities and challenges that the planning reform agenda presents for mineral planning.
