Winner - Bradford’s heritage-led regeneration scheme submitted by Bradford Metropolitan District Council
The Bradford City Centre Townscape Heritage Scheme has successfully revitalized key historic areas as Bradford celebrates its status as UK City of Culture 2025.
The scheme has led to improved historic buildings, pedestrianisation of central areas, and contributed to a more vibrant, high-quality environment for people to live, work and visit.
The Bradford City Centre Townscape Heritage Scheme is a four-year, £2 million grant programme supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF) and the City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council. It provides financial assistance to property owners and tenants, to restore their historic buildings, within the part of the Bradford city centre conservation area commonly known as the 'top of town'.
The judges said: "This is a really good example of heritage-led regeneration. Bringing historic assets back into effective use, thereby supporting the local economy and social cohesion. The public realm improvements respond to the heritage context and contribute positively to the climate change agenda.”
