At Hopetown Darlington the town’s story of engineering, ideas and invention have been brought to life via modern methods of interactive interpretation. The free to enter visitor attraction has regenerated a 7.5 acre site to create the most exciting new visitor attraction in the region. This has been a true partnership project with multiple disciplines and partners working together to secure funding and support for the £37 million attraction. Planners have worked with colleagues and partners to secure the future of several Listed Buildings on site including the II* Listed Goods Shed, previously on the ‘At Risk’ Register.

Lambton Park entered by Lichfields
Lambton Park will achieve a genuine sense of placemaking through its strong design vision and the delivery a truly exceptional development of approximately 400 new homes together with offices and a commercial centre.
The development will deliver a wide range of long-lasting benefits including investment to support the critical repairs to Lambton Castle and other heritage assets. It has also facilitated the opening of around 13km of permissive routes within the heart of the Estate to assist with health and wellbeing. The significant benefits comprised an element of the very special circumstances to outweigh any harm to the Green Belt.

Monkwearmouth Hospital entered by Argon Group
North Shields Transport Hub is North Tyneside’s first Net Zero Carbon building providing access to a sustainable and well-connected public transport system for all. It is a catalyst for the regeneration of the town centre as an attractive, family-friendly destination. The Town Square is a much-needed focus in the heart of the retail centre linking the Transport Hub, the Metro station and the main shopping centre, and providing a space for events and markets. The project acts as a pathway to growth by providing better connectivity that drives inward investment and prosperity.

Northumbria Health and Care Academy entered by Lichfields
Northumbria Health and Care Academy is a groundbreaking facility, forming part of the wider Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital estate. The development features a training centre of excellence for nursing, midwifery and allied health professionals, as well as a GP surgery.
The Academy is the UK’s first healthcare building to achieve Gold WELL Certification™ from the International WELL Building Institute and, as a hub for the training of the next generation of healthcare professionals, is also a key connector between the busy neighbouring hospital and the learning and development which underpins the future of healthcare in the region.

Riverside Sunderland Regeneration Maker & Faber offices and Wear footbridge entered by DPP Planning
This submission showcases the new footbridge and Maker & Faber of the ongoing Riverside Sunderland regeneration masterplan. The two are intrinsically linked, with the goal of boosting the local economy, enhancing connectivity between key parts of the city with the footbridge and driving productivity on a key site through the delivery of two exceptionally designed offices, providing an attractive opportunity for prospective employers. The proposals have already delivered measurable economic benefits, with an estimated £8million worth of value delivered to local communities through the footbridge and Maker & Faber attracting new investment, instilling confidence in the city, employers and talent.

The Story is a unique project that sympathetically unites a mix of old and new to create a superb new visitor attraction in County Durham. With accessibility, sustainability and the user experience at the heart of its design, the distinctive building has already attracted over 90,000 visitors in its first nine months and provided access to over 800 years of County Durhams history.
The project showcases everything good about the construction industry. The teamwork, collaboration, adaptability and pride from the client and project team has produced a fantastic new facility and brought a once unused building back into public use.
