Celebrating Planning Excellence 

The RTPI London Awards for Planning Excellence 2024 showcase and celebrate the best plans, people and projects. 

Our coveted awards recognise and highlight the positive contribution planning professionals make in the communities we serve around the world.

London Chair's Award 

This year's Chair's Award will go to a public sector organisation who can clearly demonstrate how they are supporting planners in terms of their learning and personal development, their mental health and well-being and their sense of belonging to a team.
This award is not entered through our awards process, but chosen locally by the regional chair and presented at the same time as the regional awards ceremony. Get in touch to nominate an organisation.

Key dates 2024 

  • 15 January - RTPI London Awards for Planning Excellence open for entries 
  • 15 March at 11.59pm - Entry deadline 
  • April/early May - London judges site visits and/or Young Planner interviews 
  • 20 May - London shortlist announced 
  • 27 June - Announcing the winners in the London region at the London Awards Ceremony
  • August/September - National awards judging 
  • Mid October - National finalists announced 
  • End November - National Ceremony 

The judging process 

The RTPI Awards for Planning Excellence has 15 national award categories.  Entries in the London are initially judged across 10 categories and awarded as: 

  • Best Plan 
  • Best Project 
  • Planning Authority of the Year 
  • Small Planning Consultancy of the Year 
  • Young Planner of the Year* 

These winners become national finalists. 

The shortlisted entries are put through for judging in the national awards and will be judged against the others in their selected categories for the national finalist list. The remaining five direct to national categories are also judged to complete the national finalist list of 15 categories. The winners and commendations are announced at the national ceremony in November.  

*All Young Planner of the Year winners will be entered into the national shortlist and will be judged by the national judges and the top five will become national finalists. 

The RTPI London Awards for Planning Excellence celebration event will be held in London on the 27 June 2024. Please save the date and we will provide further information nearer the time.
