Event Description

Across the country, planners are trying innovative ways to engage communities and amplify voices from groups who often do not engage with the planning system. This seminar will involve speakers who are at the cutting edge of community engagement. They will share their insights and best practices. It will be of relevance for private and public sector planners.

  • Explore case studies and real-world applications that demonstrate how to apply the discussed concepts.

Speakers

Dr. Bonnie Kwok MBE: Business Development Manager at Greater Cambridge Shared Planning Service (GCSP). Bonnie was appointed an MBE in the King's New Year Honours List for outstanding services to education. As the Lead for the GCSP's Youth Engagement Service, she is passionate about attracting young people to the profession and visits schools to talk about developments in their area. She was included on the 2024 Planner Woman of Influence list.

Heather Jones – Deputy director of Planning and Building Quality at GCSP and 3C building Control, and was included on the 2025 Planner Magazine's Women of Influence list. Heather actively engages local young people to enable them to have genuine design input in new development. Has obtained vast experience in a variety of director roles, including at South Kesteven District Council, and Powys County Council.

Grace Crannis - Principal Planning Engagement at Richmond and Wandsworth Council. Grace is a designer and researcher with a background in architecture. She is co-founder of design studio Syrup and creatively supports both Richmond and Wandsworth to deliver inclusive planning engagement. This includes commissioning creative digital and innovative public realm projects for Wandsworth’s Local Plan and Night Time Strategy.
