Celebrate South Asian Heritage Month by exploring the role of housing and urban planning in preserving cultural heritage in this open discussion. This webinar will discuss how South Asian communities navigate the intersection of cultural identity and housing, highlighting the importance of creating spaces that reflect diverse values and traditions across generations.
Learning outcomes
Participants will:
- Gain insight into how housing and urban planning shape the preservation and expression of cultural heritage, particularly within South Asian communities, and how they contribute to the maintenance of cultural identity across generations. Recognise challenges and opportunities for Town Planners in creating inclusive and culturally responsive places.
- Learn about the unique challenges South Asian communities face in balancing cultural traditions with the practicalities of modern housing, and how urban planning can accommodate diverse cultural values while fostering inclusivity. Understand the intersectionality between identity and housing.
- Identify key approaches for designing and planning housing that not only meet the functional needs of diverse communities but also reflect and honour values, traditions, and history.
