In 2019 Iglu Studio Ltd was appointed to develop and deliver a concept masterplan for the river valley of the River Leven Project, developing the concept of a linear river park referencing the industrial and natural heritage of the valley. The concept masterplan included a green landscape framework, six new public spaces (gardens), and a ‘shared’ Active Travel Network (River Park Routes), which forms part of a wider Active Travel Network across the Levenmouth area. Iglu are currently leading the detailed development of the River Park Routes.

A key aspect of the development of the RPR has been the planning process – which went from being considered as not needed at the funding stage, to a Major Application at the end of 2022, to more recently (at the end of 2023) to a National Development under the new NPF4 guidance (the project is contained within the Central Scotland Green Network designation), and as such is the first NPF4 National Development for Fife Council, Green Action Trust and Sustrans).

The presentation will touch on a number of key aspects, with a particular focus on those relevant to NPF4

  • Planning
  • Community and Stakeholder Engagement
  • Climate change/challenge
