Many of the design decisions required to meet sustainability requirements are inherently compatible with good urban design principles (public transport, walkable neighbourhoods, urban greening), but others have a more nuanced relationship:

  • Interesting typologies and façade design vs form factor
  • Blocks with clear front to backs vs orientation
  • Larger windows vs overheating

Join the RTPI Urban Design Network and East of England Young Planners as we explore these tensions and how they might be positively resolved.

RTPI East of England Young Planner Committee member Katie Fowler kindly arranged this event and will Chair the session alongside Vicky Payne, Chair of the RTPI’s Urban Design Network.

Speakers

Jo Elnaugh, Principal Sustainability and Built Environment Specialist at Essex County Council
