Ask an Expert.....

Human water use, climate change, and land conversion have created a global ‘water crisis’ that threatens billions of people and endangers ecosystems worldwide.

The collective ability of humanity to ensure adequate water for society and the environment depends on understanding how our water cycle is changing across different scales and geographical contexts. This talk by Professor David Hannah will showcase how colleagues at the University of Birmingham and our collaborators work together on water related issues and the UN Sustainable Development Goals at a time of unprecedented global change. Leveraging partnerships between universities and the public and private sector is critical to address challenges of water security and build planetary resilience for sustainable futures with the planning and system and built environment playing a key role in this.

David Hannah is Professor of Hydrology at the University of Birmingham, Director of the Birmingham Institute for Sustainability and Climate Action (BISCA), UNESCO Chair in Water Sciences and listed in the Reuters Top 1000 world’s top climate scientists. Join David for this special lecture that explores (1) ground-breaking and interdisciplinary research and (2) opportunities for collaboration with Planning and the Built Environment researchers and practitioners to address climate and water crisis, adaptation and resilience building, and sustainable development.

Following on from the lecture there will then be a Q&A session with Dr Charles Goode.

The events starts at 17.30 and is followed by drinks and networking at the Pegasus Group offices on Newhall Street.

Please note this event is only open to RTPI members and non members but only those who are students and staff of Birmingham, University.
