This session will cover:

  • New national planning graduate program,
  • The challenges and opportunities in delivering the government’s capacity and capability strategy,
  • Explore some of the research findings around local government planning and misconceptions.
  • The collaborative working happening with the RTPI, POS, TCPA and Public Practice to jointly improve the image of the profession.
  • Overcoming the problematisation of planning in the public discourse

Local Plan

This session will cover:

  • The Brent Local Plan 2019-2041: How the Brent local plan has paved the way for a suite of supplementary planning documents. (Finalist in the RTPI Awards for Planning Excellence national awards and winner of the RTPI London awards for Planning Excellence in the Excellence for Plan making category 2023)

Net zero carbon

This session will cover:

  • Carbon 101: carbon in the built environment, the importance of terminology, and policies coming forward on net zero carbon.
  • Planning applications: hydrogen, battery storage and sub-sea cable projects in England and Scotland

Legal update

This session will cover:

  • Recent cases and Government/Opposition including water neutrality and nutrient neutrality, Local Plans, enforcement and Environment Act restriction orders, biodiversity net gain and permitted development rights.

SUDS, Water neutrality and scarcity

This session will cover:

    • Promoting SuDS Collaboration: Looking at the changing legislation and how early-stage collaboration enhances outputs.
    • Water scarcity – the challenge and why we need to address it.
    • Water neutrality – the concept and how we can embed it.
    • Opportunities in planning for water – the gap between the planning system and the water industry framework
    • Research opportunities – what we could look at to help close the gap.
