On World Town Planning Day, on 8 November every year, planners and communities all over the world come together to celebrate how good planning improves the lives of people and benefits society at large, creating places where to live, work and play together.

This webinar focusses on “Delivering Equity & Social Justice through Planning”.

Against the backdrop of the aftermath of Covid-19, wars in Ukraine and the Middle East, high inflation and economic downturn, Equity & Social Justice is becoming a more prominent topic in planning.  

During this interactive webinar, we will hear from our three speakers who will discuss the following areas.

Speakers and topics:

  • Prof Rowland Atkinson from the University of Sheffield, UK - will set the scene with regards to social justice and the city and current trends in the UK and beyond.
  • Prof Carol Archer from the University of Technology, Jamaica - will share insights of her work with the Special Advisory Group Enterprise (SAGE) to the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities.
  • Principal Planner Ian McElwee - will share his expertise in working together with disadvantaged and environmental justice communities in Central Massachusetts, USA
  • Webinar Chair - Philipp Tschavoll-Selenko, DLP Planning Limited

The webinar will also include a panel discussion with the speakers and Q & A with delegates.
