A walking tour led by Lauryn Steel, Civil Engineer. She has put together the engineering story of the seven bridges over the Nith River built from the 15th to the millennium of the 20th/21st century. She has published a walking tour leaflet with the help of the Institute of Civil Engineers.

Lauryn’s engineering background gives us an opportunity to extend our knowledge on the engineering secrets of these bridges, their types and materials - in person only.

Location - meet at Nithsdale Rowing Club, Nith Avenue Dumfries, DG1 1EF. There is parking close by.

Additional information:

  • There is likely to be a maximum limit of 24 people to ensure that everyone can participate safely and hear what is being said.
  • This will be entirely outdoor and we cannot guarantee the weather so please check the forecast and come prepared.
  • If there is flooding in the town, the event will be cancelled for safety reasons as we would be in the area of the town that floods most.
  • There is a train service from Carlisle to Dumfries and a slow service from Glasgow on the Nith Valley line. It is also possible to travel by train to Lockerbie as long as you are able to meet the bus service to and from Dumfries.
