Hosted by Nottingham Trent University this walking tour will discuss some of the major planning opportunities and challenges faced by Nottingham. In particular, we will explore the context of the former Broadmarsh shopping centre through to today and beyond.

Located in the heart of the city, Broadmarsh is a high-profile site that has been subject to recent, and rapid, shifts in the expectations of city centres. This includes the decline in demand for traditional retail development as we emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic. With previous proposals and projects abandoned the now partly demolished Broadmarsh site is in the ownership of Nottingham City Council. Therefore, the challenge we will explore on this event is how to shape a future vision and development strategy for the site that balances the aspiration of a wide range of stakeholders across the city and region.

The event will begin at Nottingham Trent University with a short introductory talk from lecturers followed by a walk through the city to the Broadmarsh site where we will be joined by planning colleagues from Nottingham City Council for a tour. Light refreshments will be provided and there will be opportunities for networking throughout.
