Join Graeme Buckman Regional Manager of Enovert and Meyrick Brentnall the Severnside Project Officer at Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust (GWT) as they take you around the Hempsted Landfill site in Gloucester.

The landfill is now complete and is not accepting waste. However, Enovert (the owner) with support from GWT are looking to develop an ‘EcoPark on the site.

As we walk around the area we will discuss the existing facilities (gas turbine, composting facility and household recycling facility) and explore what we hope to do over the coming years. This includes a 36ha wood, new wetland and other habitats as well as further low carbon generation projects such as a solar farm.

We will discuss what an EcoPark is and what it can do to help Enovert and GWT achieve more sustainable outcomes. We will also look how the site fits within the wider Severn vale and other initiatives to increase biodiversity, improve landscape, better access and address the climate emergency.

We will take about 2 hours to walk around the site. Some of the terrain is quite rough and steep so bring appropriate footwear. There is very little shelter so if rain is forecast then water proofs are strongly recommend.

Meet at 10.30 at the Enovert site office off the access road to household recycling centre (off Hempsted Lane: what 3 words priced.poetic.visits or SO809:177) There is ample parking but please try and arrange lift sharing etc. There are no busses as such but it is 3km from Gloucester train/bus station.

Those who want to continue the discussion we will go down to ‘Tank’ in Gloucester Docks for something to eat and drink.

Limited places so booking early is recommended
