We are pleased to announce this event in collaboration with the University of Manchester’s Planning, Landscape, and Urban Management Society (PLUMS), in which we’ll question for whom our public realm - from parks to highways - has been designed, and what we, as planners, can do to improve it.

To share their knowledge on this subject, we will welcome Susannah Walker, co-founder and trustee of Make Space for Girls (presenting via video call); and a co-presentation by Lily Feasby, who is a Transport Strategy Officer at Transport for Greater Manchester and urban design student at the University of Manchester (presenting in person), and Pete Zanzottera, who has worked extensively in active travel, including working closely with Dame Sarah Storey is her roles for the Combined Authorities of South Yorkshire and currently Greater Manchester.

Susannah Walker's varied career has included working in museums, as a TV producer for the BBC and Channel 4, and writing several books, now working on a range of projects which improve parks and other outdoor spaces in order to support opportunities for teenage girls, improving their mental and physical well-being and access to public space.

Lily and Pete will speak about the forthcoming Greater Manchester Streets for All Design Guide that takes an inclusive approach to street design to support the vision for Greater Manchester as a place to grow up, get on, and grow old.

Following the seminar, we will be hosting a summer social for the RTPI North West Young Planners and PLUMS, including refreshments, from approximately 6pm (details and registration are via this link).

Registration for this event is free for RTPI members – RTPI membership is FREE for students on all RTPI accredited courses, via this link.

Thanks to Make Space for Girls for use of the event image.
