Join us for the RTPI East Midlands New Year Debate: Planning for Housing in a Time of Crisis (Urban and Rural)

Six speakers, working in pairs, will consider the complex question of housing in a time of crisis in relation to the three inter-related themes of economic, social and environmental.

Barrister, Stephanie Hall will Chair this lively debate and give the opening address.   Refreshments and networking on arrival.

As the audience you will have opportunity for both networking and passing comment on each argument presented.

The speakers will work in pairs to present a contrasting argument.

Social theme:

  • Jonathan Dixon Director of Planning at Savills Thought Leadership Group
  • Grant Butterworth – Head of Planning at Leicester City Council 

Economic theme:

  • Steve Kemp - Founder and Director of OpenPlan
  • Simon Macklen Director of Economics at Marrons 

Environmental theme:

  • Dr Laura Alvarez - Senior Principal Urban Design and Conservation Officer BArch (Hons) PG Dip MAUD UDGRP PhD at Nottingham City Council
  • Jonathan Gorham - Senior Planning Adviser at the NFU (National Farmers' Union)
