Join us for a guided walk to mark 90 years since the infamous Kinder Scout Trespass.

Our guides - the Hayfield Kinder Trespass Group - will tell us about the history and context of the protest during a hike up the scenic Peak District mountain to William Clough, through which the infamous group trespassed en route to the Hayfield to Snake footpath. This will provide fuel for discussion on the legislation that's followed and contemporary debates around Right to Roam and trespass laws together with an opportunity to network and socialise.

The moorland plateau of Kinder Scout stands as the highest point of the Peak District, at 636m above sea level. This wild peat moor is one of the most popular spots in England for hiking, and is steeped in rolling moorland and glorious views. In addition to the scenic landscape, there are plenty of other attractions around Kinder Scout, including Kinder Downfall waterfall, Kinder Reservoir and the famous Edale Cross.

This walk offers the perfect setting for those with a keen interest in the outdoors and walking. The guided loop around William Clough will take approx. 3 hours, and then attendees are welcome to continue to the Kinder summit unguided (approx. 5 hours). Friends and family are also invited, but please note that the walk is fairly challenging so may not be suitable for children under 12.

The walk will be limited in numbers so early booking is recommended. Online bookings only. Further details will be provided to attendees prior to the event.

Transport - the Ramblers Association has advised that a large number of people are expected to be visiting across the weekend, so it is strongly recommended to use public transport or share lifts if driving.

Guest Speaker - James Richardson, Associate Director in Ecology, Wardell Armstrong

Note, there are also a number of events, including speakers and live folk music, scheduled for the Saturday of the 90th anniversary weekend. For details, visit the Hayfield Kinder Trespass Group’s website: kindertrespass.org.uk
