Please join Julie O’Rourke (Senior Planner at Tetra Tech Planning) and Kath Haddrell (Planning Manager at the Inspectorate) for a short walking tour of the ‘good, bad and ugly examples of planning in Bristol. On the walking tour you will learn about the ‘good’, the transformation of Queen Square from a underutilised square with an inner ring road to a new urban space which has led to the regeneration of neighbouring neglected spaces and streets. The bad, the roundabout in front of the grade I listed St Mary Redcliffe. Learn about the opportunities to transform the area in the future, and the ‘Ugly’, the failed ‘city in the sky concept’ and the Galleries shopping centre. Learn about the plans for a series of concrete walkways above the traffic in Bristol which would have resulted in the first ever ‘city in the sky’ and the plans to regenerate the Galleries shopping centre which was built in the 1980’s.

Walk specifics:

Walking difficulty - An easy walk which has a few slight inclines, generally flat, all footpath

Meeting point: Queens Square by the William III statue

The walk will be limited in numbers so early booking is recommended.
