This webinar forms part of the RTPI Online series and is brought to you by RTPI West of Scotland Chapter.

Rebecca Rylott (CMLI) from Landscape Institute Scotland will provide a brief guide on Applying the Guidelines for Visual Landscape Assessment: What Planners Need To Know. This will focus on the intersections between landscape and the planning system with a focus on planning for renewable energy projects.

As part of the RTPI West of Scotland Chapter’s ‘Road to COP26’ theme of events, and with Scotland committed to increasing renewable energy generation, Rebecca will provide planners and built environment professionals with a run through of applying Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment (LVIA). LVIA can be effective in planning decisions since it helps identify the effects of new developments on views and on the landscape itself. The presentation will help us to understand why these effects can be quite different, why some developments can have  visual effects but none on landscape character, and some vice versa. The presentation will provide an introduction to analysing and understanding landscape effects and what is required to produce and interpret LVIA, with a focus on recent developments in LVIA application in Scotland.
