This webinar forms part of our RTPI Online series and is brought to you by RTPI Gloucestershire Young Planners and RTPI East Midlands Young Planners

The emerging Environment Bill represents perhaps the most significant piece of domestic legislation relating to wildlife protection within the last 20 years.

Whilst this Bill remains in draft at the present time, once enacted this piece of legislation will have significant ramifications for most planning applications in England. A key aspect of the Bill is that it would entail a legal requirement for developments to demonstrate that they achieve biodiversity net gain, with this to be secured via a mandatory planning condition.

In this webinar we consider:

  • The emerging requirements currently set out in the legislation;
  • How biodiversity net gain is calculated;
  • Potential options for developers; and
  • The challenges and opportunities associated with undertaking net gain calculations

A series of case studies and worked examples will be presented to consider how biodiversity net gain is likely to work in practice, and the implications for developers for a range of situations including large scale greenfield sites, regeneration of urban brownfield sites and small scale planning applications.

Speakers:

  • Simon Taber – Director, Ecology Solutions
  • Oliver Ramm – Director, RammSanderson Ecology
  • Chris Moore - Chair of Gloucestershire Young Planners
  • Melissa Balk - Member of East Midlands Young Planners
