This webinar forms part of our RTPI Online series and is brought to you by RTPI South West

The recent ‘Planning for the future white paper’ includes a number of proposals in creating ‘beautiful’ places with a vision that will require a “step change in the design skills available to local planning authorities”. This webinar led by Darren Beer of Focus on Design will be a great opportunity to understand:

  • The role of the designer - The approach, process and brief
  • Why good design is important?
  • How to identify site characteristics & context analysis
  • What makes a difference in terms of placemaking – urban form, materials and detailing
  • Is Replicating or referencing existing characters of areas ‘required’ or are alternative approaches successful?

Darren will also illustrate his talk with a number of South West region case studies highlighting how placemaking and ‘good and beautiful’ design was achieved.
