SuDS is concerned with integrating surface water management as a positive component in the planning, design, function and appearance of places. Water is inherently good and indeed is necessary but it can also be destructive.  For these reasons we must plan and design for water in a strategic, detailed and sustainable way which embraces it,harnesses it and manages it, not only for our for social benefit but for economic good sense and last but not least, for benefit to the environment.

This webinar is part of a series of two, which will cover the topic from both a policy and development management perspective. These webinars will allow delegates to:

  • understand more about the sustainable management of water and to think about water as more than just drainage
  • have a basic understanding of SuDS as the integrated sustainable management of surface water
  • have an understanding and appreciation that SuDS is about the planning, design and management of the environment at both a macro and micro scale for the sustainable management of water ie. that planning for the sustainable management of water is a combination of water management at the regional water catchment scale, area and site detail scale
  • understand the range of SuDS features such as swales, rain harvesting etc. which are devices which can be employed in the design of developments to help produce a more sustainable management of water on a site
  • understand that SuDS is not a series of sustainable water features but features which can form part of the wider design of developments to manage water in a sustainable way
  • understand what tools and resources are available to support the implementation and assessment of SuDS through the planning system

These webinars are brought to you by RTPI North West and RTPI West Midlands.
