This event forms part of the RTPI Online Events 2020 series and is brought to you by RTPI London and Greater London Authority

To solve problems around air quality, material consumption, transport and energy use, cities must change. They need to lead on green issues and bring their citizens with them. As such, it’s vital for city authorities, businesses and citizens to have a closer dialogue.

One way to enable this is the Digital Social Market, a solution developed by Future Cities Catapult/Connected Places Catapult and Sharing Cities, a €24 million EU-funded Smart Cities project led by the Greater London Authority in partnership with six major European cities.

The Digital Social Market allows cities to explore and experiment with citizen participation.

The benefits include:

  • Raise awareness of and enable smart city services (like bike-sharing and residential energy management)
  • Harness citizens’ enthusiasm to drive change
  • Increase positive behaviour
  • Environmental, economic, social and health benefits
  • Improve inclusion through information sharing

This session will run through:

  • The fundamental concepts of the Digital Social Market
  • Insights and challenges to maintaining sustained citizen engagement
  • Adapting the tool and finding new purpose during times of crisis

  • Peter Kemp – Greater London Authority (Host)
  • Sandy Tung – Sharing Cities Programme Manager, Greater London Authority
  • Francesco Marchet – Project Management Office Team Lead, Connected Places Catapult

The format of the session will be a 15 minute presentation followed by a 15 minute Q&A.

A recording of this session will be available on the #plantalk You Tube channel shortly afterwards.
