The West Midlands Young Planners Committee hosted the Young Planners' Conference in Birmingham on October 13-14, 2023. 241 delegates attended the conference from across the UK.

The West Midlands region has recently played host to two major events, the 2022 Commonwealth Games and the UK City of Culture 2021, which serve as symbols of the ongoing transformation of the region's major centres. Against this backdrop, the conference theme of "Planning for Legacy - Regeneration and Place" explored the critical role of planning in securing sustainable development in the context of public and private sector investment before and after such major events. The conference delved into the local, regional, and national focus on "levelling up," with a particular emphasis on our town and city centres.

The gala dinner was hosted on the Friday evening at The Council House.

Huge thanks to this year's sponsors.

The 2024 conference will be hosted by the East of England Young Planners Committee in Cambridge. More details will follow here in the spring/summer.

The conference is a highly anticipated event in our calendar, designed to attract 200-250 planning professionals who are defined as 'Young Planners'. These delegates are in the first ten years of their planning career and come from all corners of the UK. The conference is a positive and rewarding experience for both delegates and participants, and it plays a significant role in the career development of Young Planners.
