RTPI Cymru responds to the Senedd inquiry into Welsh Government's draft budget for the next financial year.
The draft budget was laid before the Senedd. RTPI Cymru responded by indicating where an adequately resourced planning system can have a positive impact on priority areas, particularly in light of Covid-19. Read our full response here.
In December 2021, Welsh Government published the draft budget for 2022/23, headlined as a climate change budget. RTPI Cymru supports its strong commitments to delivering a national forest as well as biodiversity, active travel, the circular economy, renewable energy, flooding, and decarbonising housing. However all of these actions need a strong planning service to help deliver them effectively for the long term and RTPI Cymru has repeatedly called for investment in planning services in local government and Welsh Government, as well as associated statutory bodies to meet their planning responsibilities. Without this investment, the Welsh Government ambitions and the positive outcomes we all want to see, will struggle to be achieved.
