The Royal Town Planning Institute is governed, under the provisions of its Royal Charter and Byelaws, through a Board of Trustees with a General Assembly, supported by various regional and specialism-based committees.
The composition of the Presidential Team, General Assembly, the Board of Trustees and its committees, and how individuals are elected or appointed to those roles can be found in the Regulations.
The Governance Structure chart below shows:
- The General Assembly - a form for debate about planning policy and practice and the Institute's strategy. Composed of around 70 members elected or appointed by the Institute's members.
- The RTPI Board of Trustees - responsible for determining and overseeing the strategy and direction of the Institute. Composed of around 13 Trustees elected by the General Assembly.
- Board Sub-committees - committees with specialist remits which support the Board in the discharge of its responsibilities. Composed of Trustees and co-opted members.
- Board Standing Committees - committees or panels which lead on particular strands of the RTPI's work. Composed of Trustees, General Assembly members and members appointed from the wider membership.
- The groups and activities which report into each Standing Committee
- Other groups associated with the RTPI such as our networks and the RTPI Trust charity.
