Join us to explore the intersection of nature recovery and low carbon planning. Discover how emerging strategies, technologies, and policy shifts are shaping greener places, from biodiversity net gain, to planning for the transition to a decarbonised national grid. Whether you're new to environmental planning or looking to deepen your expertise, this session offers insights and practical takeaways to support sustainable development across the Northwest. 

What to Expect: Expert-led sessions, case studies, and practical advice to integrate these requirements into your day-to-day work. 

What You’ll Gain: Clear understanding of statutory obligations, policy implementation, and strategies to deliver climate and nature benefits through planning policy development and decisions. 

This event aims to equip planners with the knowledge and confidence to navigate emerging and existing environmental and energy challenges while supporting sustainable development. The event will focus on the latest policy requirements and practical delivery strategies for climate and nature recovery.

This event will cover:

  • Local Nature Recovery Strategies (LNRS) – reflecting habitat priorities and mapping in decision making.
  • Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) – implementing the mandatory 10% gain and using statutory metrics.
  • Green Infrastructure – applying Natural England’s framework to create multifunctional spaces.
  • Nature Recovery Fund – accessing funding for restoration and species recovery projects.
  • Protected Landscapes – meeting statutory duties for AONBs and National Parks.
  • Renewable energy – planning for the transition to a decarbonised national grid.

This event is eligible for up to five hours of CPD and covers the following subjects from the core CPD framework:

  • Climate change and environmental planning
  • Health and wellbeing

Recommended for all planning professionals, whether that be local authorities, planning consultants, developers or builders.
