Education for Everyone: Assessment of Professional Competence review

The successful completion of the Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) grants chartership, the gold-standard of planning practice. The current APC guidance was introduced in June 2019, with first candidates submitting under the new guidance in February 2020. To ensure that the APC process, guidance, and assessment model continue to reflect best practice, the RTPI is undertaking its regular APC review, forming Part 3 of Education for Everyone.

This review will focus on ensuring that both our materials and the APC process match our accessibility and inclusivity commitments. We are committed to removing any unintended barriers that candidates may face when completing the APC.

Please note there will be no immediate changes to the APC guidance or assessment model. Any proposed changes will not affect current APC candidates.

As the review progresses, this Hub will be regularly updated with key developments. You can also stay informed through our monthly membership bulletin.

“Education for Everyone is an ambitious initiative aimed at inspiring a new, diverse generation of planners. I am pleased that the APC review is commencing after the successful completion of the review of the Policy Statement on Initial Planning Education in 2025. The APC review is the vital next step in ensuring our professional standards evolve to meet the needs of future planners.”

Sue Bridge – Former RTPI President and Chair of the Education for Everyone Oversight Group.
