Join RTPI North West Young Planners for a Liverpool City Council-led guided walking tour exploring Liverpool’s historic pubs and heritage assets. Led by Alice Nottingham, Heritage Officer at Liverpool City Council, with support from Donald Insall Associates, the tour will consider heritage significance, listed building consent, recent renovation works and the role of historic pubs in shaping local character. Starting at The Ship & Mitre, the route will take in Doctor Duncan’s, The Vines, St Peter’s Tavern, St Luke’s Bombed Out Church and finish at The Philharmonic Dining Rooms, with optional networking afterwards.
The tour will officially commence at 15:00, and RTPI representatives and speakers will meet at The Ship & Mitre from 14:45 to check you in. Following the end of our tour, attendees will be welcomed to join optional networking and socialising at The Philharmonic Dining Rooms. If you have been unable to secure a ticket for this event, please contact Bev Watson to be added to our waiting list. As this tour has a limited capacity, if you are no longer able to attend, please inform us at your earliest convenience so that your ticket can be reallocated to somebody on our waiting list.
Attendees will have the opportunity to stay on at The Philharmonic Dining Rooms for optional networking and socialising following the walking tour.
What you'll gain:
- Understand how heritage significance is assessed and how buildings may be considered for listed status.
- Gain insight from a local authority heritage officer into listed building consent and the practical considerations involved in managing change to historic buildings.
- Consider how listed buildings, conservation areas and heritage settings can influence nearby development proposals.
- Understand how private consultants approach heritage constraints, listed buildings and townscape considerations within planning applications.
- Explore the role of historic pubs as social, cultural and architectural assets within Liverpool city centre.
Reflect on how planners can support the continued use, adaptation and appreciation of historic buildings through heritage-led placemaking.
