RTPI to launch Coastal Week in July

The Royal Town Planning Institute will launch Coastal Week on 3 July, focusing on the challenges and opportunities facing the UK’s coastal areas. By hosting a series of events, from walking tours to webinars, the Institute will be shining a light on the sustainability, adaptation and resilience of the UK’s coastal communities.

'Ask the Expert' Webinar on Marine Planning. Sidonie Kenward, a Marine and Terrestrial Planner within the Marine Planning team at the Marine Management Organisation will discuss the marine plans in your area, the role of stakeholder engagement and how stakeholders use the plans in decision-making. Sidonie will identify similarities and differences between marine planning and terrestrial planning, concluding with some thoughts on the future of marine planning.

Sustainable Waterfront Development walking tour in Liverpool. Beginning at Liverpool Waters and Wirral Water, this walking tour will explore how development has incorporated sustainable designs and features.

Regeneration Walking Tour in Southport. Join the Young Planners for a regeneration walking tour, starting and finishing in Southport Market, with a tour of the exciting future development sites and existing projects contributing towards the regeneration of Southport.

Bristol Port and the South West Marine Plan in Avonmouth. A private tour of Bristol Port seeing the scale of its operation over 2,600 acres, the different land use activity behind its gates, and its role in the regional economy. Includes an informal tour and the opportunity to hear from The Bristol Port Company as well as an introduction from the Marine Management Organisation about its role and the South West Marine Plan.

Shoreline Management Plans and Local Development Plans webinar. Martin Hurst, Chair of the Southern Regional Flood and Coastal Committee and Sarah Hirst, Planning Officer (Strategic Policy) in Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority discuss the relationship between Shoreline Management Plans and Local Development Plans.

Falmouth Harbour and the South West Marine Plan private tour. This tour of Falmouth Harbour, offers a chance to hear from Falmouth Harbour’s management team as well as an introduction from the Marine Management Organisation about its role and the South West Marine Plan.

South West Rail Resilience Programme tour and talk. Colin Field, Town Planning and Heritage Manager at Network Rail hosts a walk and talk about Network Rails programme of works of coastal resilience, which aim to protect the SW railway and keep this important national infrastructure operational.

Coastal Communities in East of England webinar. Exploring the current policy context, the challenges to be addressed and exciting, innovative approaches being implemented to overcome them along parts of the East of England’s changing coastline.

Embedding marine issues in the planning process waterfront walk in Plymouth. This field day examines the restructuring and regeneration of Plymouth’s waterfront, together with the implications for integration with the marine environment and planning.
