Béatrice Crabb is a chartered planner and the International Manager at the Royal Town Planning Institute.
As the International Manager at the RTPI, I have the immense privilege to support our international function and get to know so many of our members based in around 80 countries worldwide. From members representing RTPI at the UN in New-York or Nairobi to members delivering outstanding place making in Bhutan, South Africa, Barbados or Hong-Kong, our members lead our action globally.
One of my favourite times of the year is when our global membership can come together to celebrate the best of planning for World Town Planning Day. It is a unique opportunity every year on and around the 8 November to champion our profession and celebrate planning as a positive force.
Every year, the RTPI and members of the Global Planners Network, come together to rally around a theme to celebrate planning. With Planning We Can is our theme this year. At the RTPI, we are existed to be part of this global campaign and bring plenty of opportunities for members to engage and be planning champions!
This year we really wanted to focus on planning as a key lever that delivers positive change for our cities and communities.
To kick off the campaign, we have released an animation to celebrate planning. And what a better way to do this than, showcasing some of our Award for Planning Excellence winners? So check the video and share widely with your networks using #WTPD2025 #WithPlanningWeCan!
At the RTPI have a number of events throughout the week running up to World Town Planning Day.
We are starting with the Sir Tony Hall annual lecture on 4 November. This is a hybrid event that will focus on AI in planning and design so please take a look to find out more or book.
What other opportunities do we have for our members? I am proud to say that this year again we are offering an online knowledge exchange programme. This programme is supported by RTPI staff and is led by RTPI members who volunteer their time to curate the content. I want to say a big thank you to our members who come together to share the best about planning, lending their expertise and networks to foster mutual learning and promote planning led solutions to tackle todays challenges.
