The RTPI and Content With Purpose announce new digital series
The Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) is partnering with Content With Purpose (CWP) to produce Planning with Purpose - a new digital series celebrating how positive planning outcomes have shaped, and continue to shape, stronger, better-connected communities across the UK.
Planning is more than housing policy. It links homes, jobs, and essential services through well-designed infrastructure, culture, and environment. From improving access to local green spaces and community projects to developing national transport and energy networks, planning delivers the systems that make life possible. It turns ambition into action - enabling climate-resilient places, unlocking opportunities for young people, and driving economic growth.
As the UK enters a new era of planning reform, Planning with Purpose takes a longer-term view, highlighting ambitions already realised and showcasing planning at its most impactful. Through collaboration between planners, local authorities, universities, businesses and charities, the series will explore how planning delivers enduring social, environmental and economic value.
Through a mix of short-form films, expert insights and character-led stories, Planning with Purpose will shine a light on the people and partnerships behind successful places. The series will explore how inclusive public spaces are created, how local projects are supported, and how access to jobs, education and essential services is made possible - demonstrating how ideas on paper become real improvements to people’s lives.
Planning with Purpose builds on the success of RTPI and CWP’s previous collaboration, Planning for Tomorrow’s Environment in 2022, which explored the role of planning in addressing environmental challenges and shaping more sustainable places.
Jan Bessell, President of the RTPI in 2026, said: “As I begin my presidential year, Planning with Purpose is both my focus and a call to action for the profession. This series will show how planning acts as a collaborative bridge - bringing together planners and partners at every scale to create thriving communities, resilient environments, sustainable infrastructure and positive economic outcomes. It will highlight the real-world impact of planning and the difference it makes to places and people across the UK.”
Max Smith, Founder and Managing Director of CWP, added: “We are delighted to be partnering once again with the RTPI. Planning with Purpose will bring powerful planning stories to life, highlighting the people and partnerships behind places that work - and demonstrating how planning can deliver lasting benefits for communities across the UK.”
Planning with Purpose will launch in November 2026 to coincide with World Town Planning Day. Later that month, guests at the RTPI Awards for Planning Excellence will be invited to an exclusive screening. A dedicated digital campaign will extend the series’ reach across the RTPI’s network and beyond, engaging policymakers, businesses, NGOs and the wider public in celebrating the role of planning in shaping better places for everyone.
