RTPI is championing planning and the profession in the UK and on the global stage

The RTPI is gearing up for a very busy time, championing planning and the profession in the UK and on the global stage. Whilst our colleagues, led by our President Jan Bessell FRTPI, will be at the UKREiiF, another team, led by the Vice President Samer Bagaeen FRTPI, is heading to Baku, Azerbaijan for the World Urban Forum (WUF13).

The gathering is co-organised by UN-Habitat. It is held every two years and is hosted by different countries around the world. It is one of the largest global conferences on urbanisation and sustainable development. This year's theme is “Housing the world: Safe and resilient cities and communities.” It brings together a wide range of participants from across the built environment professions, local, regional and national governments and grassroots organisations. It is a unique opportunity to discuss major urban challenges facing the world today, explore innovative solutions and raise the profile of planning on the global stage.

I have the privilege of being part of the RTPI Baku delegation and support our engagement at this important conference.

The RTPI, in collaboration with other organisations, is leading or supporting a number of events and we will be contributing to roundtables and discussions, bringing the voice of the profession to those important conversations.

Below are some events we are supporting:

We are also delighted to have a collaborative booth under the banner of the Global Planners Network (GPN) together with the International Society of City and Regional Planners, the Global Planning Education Association Network, the Istituto Nazionale di Urbanistica, the Commonwealth Association of Planners, City Space Architecture, and the American Planning Association.

If you are attending WUF13, come and visit our stand at the Urban Expo. Drop by and meet with our team, interact with professionals around the world and engage with our booth programme.
