Role Title

RTPI Ambassador

Outline of roles

Ambassadors are RTPI members who help to raise awareness of town planning, and champion what a great career it is. Ambassadors might, help promote the profession at university careers fairs or school assemblies, help write a case study which is turned into a lesson plan or skills workshop or help broker a work experience 'insight day' for a student or class at your place of work. 

Eligibility Criteria

If you are an RTPI member and would like to represent the profession, are willing to adapt and relate planning to interesting and everyday issues and are confident to talk engagingly about your job to young people then you may find being an RTPI Ambassador rewarding.

Minimum time commitment

It's up to you, how many visits and talks you deliver.

Length of term

You can decide what suits you.

Impact of the role

You will raise awareness of planning as a profession and might even inspire young people to take up a career in planning. And if it meets your personal development plan objectives, it could also be counted as CPD.

How to get involved

To get started:

  • New Ambassadors are asked to register your interest by completing this form and we'll put you in touch with the relevant regional manager or contact in the nations. There are groups of ambassadors you can join and we have links with local institutions.
  • In addition, we now have a partnership with Education and Employers to support members to engage with schools and young people about planning. All RTPI Ambassadors - new and existing - are invited to sign up on the Inspiring the Future platform to be matched with schools. 
  • If you have contacts already or just want to run one session for your child’s class, please check out the webpages and toolkit resources available for different age groups and afterwards, please log your activity.
