RTPI and HKIP renew MoU to strengthen global planning collaboration

The Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) and the Hong Kong Institute of Planners (HKIP) have renewed their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), reaffirming their commitment to advancing professional planning standards and international knowledge exchange.

The MoU provides a platform for planners in the UK, Hong Kong and beyond to share best practice and address shared urban challenges. Collaboration will include mutual participation in professional programmes, dialogue to support knowledge exchange, sharing information on routes to professional membership and CPD frameworks, and exploring the co-badging of selected HKIP events as RTPI Core CPD.

The renewed agreement builds on a partnership first established in 2020 and will run until 2030. Over the past five years, the partnership has focused on knowledge exchange, including a major HKIP delegation visit to London in 2024 and ongoing participation by members of both Institutes in joint events and online CPD.

Helen Fadipe, RTPI President, said: “At the core of our international strategy is the recognition that international co-operation is key to strengthening planning skills and championing planning as a force for good. We look forward to continuing our partnership with HKIP and creating renewed opportunities for knowledge exchange and mutual learning for our members.”

Commenting on behalf of HKIP, Theresa Yeung, President of HKIP and Rebecca Wong, Vice-President of HKIP, said: “With the renewal of the Memorandum of Understanding between RTPI and HKIP, we very much look forward to further strengthening our collaboration with RTPI and creating more opportunities for our members to connect and grow.”
