Our four standing committees play a vital role in leading various strands of the RTPI's work, from the education and professional development of planners through to professional standards, policy development and supporting planners internationally.

Each standing committee is either chaired or vice-chaired by a Trustee from our Board of Trustees and reports directly into the Board on its activities and recommendations.

Role titles

Outline of role

Take part in committee discussions, debates and decision-making.

Impact of the role

Members of standing committees have the opportunity to consider and input into initiatives and work streams as they are being developed. Committee members provide important scrutiny, advice and constructive challenge to RTPI officers and help decide on direction and priorities within key areas of the RTPI's work.

Criteria

  • All current RTPI members are eligible to apply.
  • Members of the England Policy Committee must live or work in England.

Minimum commitment

  • 4 half day meetings in year plus preparation time.
  • Typically two meetings in London and two held remotely via Teams. Members who live overseas will not be expected to travel to London.
  • Induction sessions at the start of your first year on the committee.

Length of term

1 year only.

Members are invited to reapply for membership annually, up to a maximum tenure of six years per committee.

Start date

1 January each year.

How to get involved

The opportunities are promoted in October each year and applications are made through an online application form asking candidates to detail their interest in the role and the skills and experience they will bring to the role.

Members are appointed by the Board of Trustees following recommendations from the chairs of the four standing committees. Appointments will be confirmed in December each year.
