This is an exemplary example of how sustainability and adaptation for climate change purposes can be achieved

The multi-use development in the heart of Belfast has reinvigorated an important city centre site which falls within an Area of Townscape Character.  The regeneration of the site has resulted in regaining the use of previously underused and uncomfortable spaces and the spin-off impacts have also resulted in adjacent properties being renovated and improved.  The design reflects the history of the site, while the leisure uses above the ground floor retail units reflect its former use as a cinema. The use of the above ground floor levels for leisure acts as a catalyst in the city centre for alternative uses to upper floors and has encouraged footfall to an area which was previously avoided. This project has reused an important site in Belfast City Centre which had been vacant for some time with a sympathetic design and high-quality mixed-use scheme.   This is an exemplary example of how sustainability and adaptation for climate change purposes can be achieved, and it is a project that has been the catalyst for the revamping of other buildings nearby.  Economically, it is clear the adaptation has now attracted international retailers to the ground floor retail units and this, in combination with new leisure uses to the upper floors, now provides a building that caters for both the daytime and evening economies, further adding vibrancy to this city centre location.
