RTPI NI Award Judges

The proposals set out a positive and forward‑looking Place Shaping Plan that is firmly rooted in the identified needs of the local community. These have been effectively translated into a clear long‑term vision, supported by strategic outcomes to help guide future regeneration. It is evident that stakeholder and community engagement has been central to the place‑shaping approach. The Plan reflects a genuinely community‑led process, with planners taking a proactive role in shaping the proposals through meaningful engagement and inclusive dialogue.

The Glencairn Place Shaping Plan 2036 is a well‑constructed, community‑owned and professionally guided plan that demonstrates strong practice in engagement, inclusion and early delivery. It provides a positive and context‑specific model for community‑led place planning in Northern Ireland. The submission could be further strengthened by providing more measurable evidence of its impact, offering greater detail on climate‑focused technical measures and clarifying what sets this approach apart from standard practice across Northern Ireland.
