This housing scheme respects the site of the listed former hotel, and has provided much needed social housing in the area. The design of the new build mimics the 1930s building and provides adaptable units to meets specific needs. The outdoor spaces provide garden space which feel intimate while having open access, and the landscaping and planting is native species to support local biodiversity. A very sympathetically designed social housing scheme which addresses the local housing need and adds to the unique streetscape. The units have introduced better use of space along its street frontage by removing an area of hardstanding, instead incorporating undercroft car parking with accommodation above. Redevelopment has allowed for innovative use of space, providing both necessary residential units and ample provision of individual and communal open space on a constrained area of land. The redevelopment has been carefully considered within its surrounding context, retaining a respectful outlook to adjacent land uses without encroaching upon existing privacy expected from nearby dwellings.
