RTPI Cymru Committees, forums and volunteering

Our work is overseen by the RTPI Cymru Executive Committee and implemented by the Director and staff team based in Wales. The Executive Committee’s remit includes:

  • working closely with the National Director to deliver on shared priorities and goals
  • supporting members in their professional activities
  • develop the Institute's position on planning policy in Wales
  • building and strengthen the Institute's relations with key stakeholders in Wales
  • advising on the development of events and CPD for members
  • share insights and updates with the Board of Trustees so they can make well-informed decisions

Details of the rules governing the work of the Executive Committee can be found in the Scheme of Delegation.

We also have a Policy Forum that is a sub-forum of the Executive Committee.

The Forum's membership comprises Corporate, Fellow and Associate RTPI members from across Wales, with a range of planning interests. The Forum sits for a two year term and plays a key role in the work of RTPI Cymru, including:

  • Supporting the development of RTPI Cymru planning and related policy positions, including advising on responses to consultations
  • Contributing to establishing RTPI Cymru positions
  • Promoting the use of research, evidence and the good practice of planning across Wales.

In 2023, RTPI Cymru supported the establishment of a Wales Planning Consultants Forum, providing a collective voice for planning consultancies operating in Wales.

How do I get involved?

  • We're a friendly group and newcomers are always welcome.

  • RTPI members are welcome to attend meetings as a guest, so please get in touch (wales@rtpi.org.uk) and come along to find out what it’s all about.

  • We meet 4 times a year for 2 hours, with a mix of in person and hybrid meetings held at the RTPI Cymru offices in Cardiff. We also offer an Induction session online in January for any new members of the Forum or the Executive Committee.

Current opportunities

  • Nominations for committee roles open in August but if there are spaces, it might be possible to co-opt members onto the committee or policy forum at any time, please contact us (wales@rtpi.org.uk) to enquire.

  • We are also always looking for volunteers to speak at our events. Interested in speaking or had an idea for a CPD session? Contact us wales@rtpi.org.uk
